Meet Our Founders, Martin Weir and Nery Ibay
The business started on the 14th October 2004. With the founding members, Martin Weir and Nery Ibay, they had set to create a business dedicated to creating masterfully made handcrafted desktop models. From the very beginning of the business, a facility was based in the Philippines. Orders would be processed by Nery, with Martin double-checking the process and a team later bringing the model replica to life. Until 2014, they both co-ran the business until Martin’s death. Upon obtaining the business by succession, the entire business is now currently operated and is ran by Nery until present. He researches each model requested individually, and utilises an efficient workflow by working closely with customers to ensure that they are satisfied with the end product. The models are sent directly from door-to-door.
Turning Passion Into a Business
The original CEO, Martin Weir, turned his hobby of liking and researching aeroplanes into a business. He worked in aviation, so had a deep passion regarding aeroplanes, submarines etc. Nery Ibay, had a background in producing aeroplane models, so has previous experience in the industry before co-founding the company with Martin. After making models for fun, people suggested turning it into a business. The name ‘Nice Airplanes’ originated from everyone saying that our models were ‘nice’ every time they had seen it.
